INFO

How to act like a New Yorker:

1. Don't look anybody in the eye while walking around town. Walk like you know where you're going.

2. Keep your wallet in your front pocket or your purse over your shoulder and neck in front of your body.

3. Learn how to walk through a crowd in a fast pace without bumping into anyone.

4. Don't be afraid to ask anyone a question! We're nice, really!

5. When hailing a cab, stick out your arm and wave at a oncoming taxi. They are required to take you anywhere you want to go in the metropolitan area so if they put up a fight, just say "Ok, well let me just take your pin number and name down before I go." Works every time. Gypsy cabs are ok but if will try to over charge you but you can haggle over the price with them.

6. Wear comfortable shoes!!

7. Don't walk alone at night!

8. If you're anything like me, you'll know where all the bathrooms are. http://www.thebathroomdiaries.com/usa/new+york/ The clean bathrooms are located at NYU (you have to have a student ID, though on the weekends sometimes you can sneak in), Barnes and Noble, and Starbucks (the bathrooms are usually locked and keys need to be asked for at the counter). Avoid the KMART and Mcdonald's bathrooms in the Village at all cost..BLECH!

9. If you're driving, really read the signs about where you're parking. We also hate slow drivers! Taxi cabs have no patience for it in the city. Avoid the stress all together and take a train!

Hotels

Unfortunately I haven't stayed at or know of any good yet fair priced hotels in the city. Most of my out of towners get to stay at Mal's place! But since you all can't do that and I won't let ya do it (besides I got cats and there's no complimentary breakfast thank you very much!) here's a couple of links to some NYC hotels
