Metropolitan Museum of Art - I love this place. It's big, full of various genres of art, and immaculately clean. If you hate crowds don't go on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The best time to go is during the weekdays as early as possible (to miss the school trips too!) If you can help it, BAG YOUR OWN LUNCH! The amount of money they charge is insane! Also admission is a suggested price! This means you can pay whatever you want. I've paid 2 dollars for 5 people before. It's ok to do it, I figure my contribution to the arts will have to wait until I have enough money for it. Admission will also cover The Cloisters on the same day. *Note: You can't see the entire museum in one day. It's impossible.

MoMa -Excellent modern and contemporary art. They will be opening up in the summer of 2002.

American Museum of Natural History - Love this place! Has a great tropical butterfly conservatory! Though a bit aged inside, it's still a phenomenal place to be. Special exhibits (like the butterflies), you need to pay to see but the rest of the museum is pay what you wish.

Guggenheim Museum - Great collections of modern and contemporary art. The architechture alone will dazzle you. Admissions is 15 dollars but it is worth it! Students get in for 12.

Hall of Science in Queens - $4.50 for admission. Great for kids and adults. Very hands on and interactive! The cow's eye dissection is the best! Also the outdoor children's playground is out of this world. Located right in Flushing Meadow's Park.

-The Village

trendy and hip neighborhood bordered between 14th street and Houston, 1st avenue and 6th avenue. Here you will find NYU, Washington Square Park, West 8th and W4th steet (watch the basketball and handball games at the playground), Bleeker St, St. Mark's place, and Union Square. A neighborhood to wander for a day.

-Chinatown/Little Italy

bordered by the East River, Lafayette, Chambers, and Houston Street. Filled with tons of street life such as open markets, street vendors, bargain basement clothing, jewelary shops, medicine shops, Buddhist temples..etc. Walking through Chinatown requires lots of patience. Locals will walk and stop at random intervals to look at a product without caring that someone is walking right behind them. Be patient and learn to walk ahead of the crowd. A nieghborhood to wander for a day.

THE OUTER BOROUGHS

Queen's Botanical Gardens/Flushing Meadow Park- Beautiful flowers are planted here every spring. The Hall of Science, Queens Theatre in the Park, Ice Skating Rink, Mets Stadium, Arthur Ashe stadium, Queens museum of art, Flushing zoo, and home to the World's Fair in the 30's and 60's is all located here. This is an excellent place to be if Central Park is just too crowded.

Coney Island in Brookyln. New york Aquarium is located here.

New York Botanical Garden - one of the world's most outstanding botanical gardens at 250 acres in the Bronx
